The Covid-19 pandemic has brought to the forefront, the terrible consequences of a global infection. Not many people know that alongside the worst hospitalized cases of the virus, comes a double whammy of a secondary bacterial infection owing to lowered immunity which can be fatal. Antibiotic Research UK (AMTRAK) has been highlighting the problem of antibiotic resistant bacterial infections (see https://(url removed)/our-charity-coronavirus-covid-19-bacterial-infection-and-antibiotic-resistance/) and the health consequences.

We are now looking for a Charity Chair to lead the charity's Board, taking over from the present interim Chair. We are looking for someone who is as passionate about tackling the problem of antibiotic resistance as we are! It is now more important than ever that we as a society address the problem of antibiotic resistance and AMTRAK is at the forefront of the battle. Eden Brown are delighted to be recruiting a Chair of the Board of Trustees at Antibiotic Research UK. Their vision is no less than saving modern medicine through integrating their various activities focused on researching new antibiotic treatments, educating the public about the problem of antibiotic research and providing support to patients affected by a drug resistant infection.

As Chair of the board you will have a pivotal role in moving ANTRUK forward to increase their income dramatically in the next five years and you will be responsible for implementing a strategy to achieve this. Most importantly you will lead the trustees to develop and update strategic plans .Research suggests that by 2050 , 10 million people a year could be dying due to antibiotic resistant infections. You as Chair will be influential in helping prevent this to be the case. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and ensure that the Charity is effectively managed within a framework of corporate strategies and key tasks. You will also actively encourage trustees to challenge the direction of the Charity as well as chairing trustee meetings and reach clear, agreed decisions within them to move the Charity forward.

The main duties involve:

Assisting the charity in developing it's 5 year business plan including the creation of a £1ARMmillion AMR Research Fund bringing multiple stakeholders together
*To be proactive in helping the charity to raise funds to deliver its mission and raising £5 million pa within 5 years and ensuring the board of Trustees demonstrate the highest standards of corporate governance
* Ensuring the expertise of individual Trustees is used appropriately for the benefit of the charity
* Reviewing the performance of individual Trustees and ensures all Trustees are fully briefed on the terms of their appointment and on their rights, duties and responsibilities
* Ensuring that board members understand their responsibility by being prepared for meetings by having considered all papers in advance
* Reviewing board membership every year
* Ensuring that the board maintains an appropriate blend of complementary skills and experience
* Agreeing the charity's strategic objectives and undertakes the annual review of the Chief Executive, in consultation with other Trustees

The chair role is highly important to the success of the Charity and therefore to be successful in this role you will have already have been a Charity trustee or Board executive. Good knowledge of drug resistant infection is essential and you will be kindly utilized to utilise your networks to assist the Charity in meeting it's objectives. Campaigning skills are also key to this role. We would love to consider applicants who have the following backgrounds pharmahealth care healthcare, finance, law, commerce, policy and public affairs. You should have a proven record of success.

The role is a voluntary position and occupies up to two days per month of a person's time. Board meetings ensures are held at least three times every year, at regular intervals, and you will liaise regularly with the Chief Executive to provide a sounding board, advice and support.
