Case Assistant / Research Assistant

One of the UKs largest probate genealogist/heir hunter firms is recruiting for a Case Assistant / Research Assistant to join its expanding team based in Wigan, Greater Manchester providing genealogy services to the legal sector. In broad terms the role will be to support the case managers and their line managers so that they can perform their duties in the most efficient manner. However, due to Covid-19, this will initially be based from home.

Brief Job Description:

Assisting the Management and Case Managers, this unique and rewarding opportunity includes the following responsibilities (Please note that any travelling will be subject to government guidelines during the pandemic):

• General administrative duties

• Answering the phone

• Producing correspondence to be signed off by Case Managers

• Ordering certificates from the General Registry Office or local registrars

• Travelling to search archive collections in Manchester

• Completing divorces, probate and will searches; making payments and tracking

• Compiling interim and final reports; including computerised trees, covering letter, mailing lists, making copies of supporting certificates, documents and agreements

• Collecting certificates from GRO in Southport whenever necessary

• Occasional travel to collect documents from clients

• Working with the private/public client teams to meet financial and deadline targets

• Researching family trees and taking calls to confirm research

• Updating solicitors and other bodies (where necessary)

Key skills required:

- The ideal candidate will be educated or at least to A Level, ultra-organised and possess strong communication skills including a good telephone manner. You will have experience of working in an office and have neat and clear handwriting. You will have basic knowledge of Microsoft systems and be able to manage large workloads working to tight deadlines.

- You will also possess an exemplary sickness & punctuality record and will be a proven team player.

- Ideally you will hold a UK driving licence.

Key features of the employment terms:

* Hours of work (37.5 hour week) 9.15 -5.15 Monday – Friday (half hour lunch)

* Holidays 25 plus statutory

* Salary negotiable but range for the role is circa £18,000 - £21,000, paid monthly, last Friday of the month
