Defence Equipment

The CAD Designer role is based within our Defence Equipment business area.

Defence equipment stores, maintains, repairs and overhauls military vehicles and equipment so the UK army is able to train and deploy in a moment. As well as supporting vehicles that are already in service, the team carries out vehicle assembly integration and tests new vehicles.

As a CAD Designer you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Help us digitise the Defence Inventory and create technical definitions like never before!

Could you determine how to apply the latest scanning and modelling techniques to change the forecast?

Day to day, you'll conduct 3D scanning of parts supplied for modelling, convert 3D scans into CAD files using appropriate software, and create digital models of components and assemblies through direct inspection of parts supplied.

You'll also work alongside Design Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers and the Chief Engineer to assist in producing design packs and certification reports and be responsible for inspection of manufactured parts through a variety of measurement techniques.

Essential experience
Degree qualified or equivalent level of experience
Expertise and experience in using computer aided design applications to create digital technical definition
Expertise in creation and interpretation of drawings and digital models to facilitate modern manufacturing processes
Experience of design engineering processes and standards
Expertise in use of scanners and associated applications
Currently hold or have the ability to obtain SC security clearance
Knowledge of defence equipment would be advantageous
Excellent communicator
Expertise in manufacturing engineering principles
Knowledge and experience with new product introduction
Familiarity and experience with advanced and additive manufacturing technologies
Full driving license
Ability to build relationships and understand the customers needs
