The Buyer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

The difference our new Buyer will make

As a Buyer, you will have a role that's out of the ordinary. As a member of our Devonport Central Operational Team, you will be assisting in the ongoing industrial support of the Navy relating to new aircraft carriers, surface combatants and submarines, and infrastructure.

Day to day, you will be providing support from a Buying standpoint responsible for carrying out sourcing and supplier allocation activities, managing supplier order books and conducting supplier performance and relationship management. Moreover, you will be managing system dates to ensure project timelines are met, supporting programme improvement plans and coordination with operational procurement team ensure project requirements are executed on time. In turn, this will contribute to dept KPI and risk metrics and value plan through supply chain initiatives.

This role provides a hybrid working arrangement of x3 days a week on-site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with the remaining x2 days to be completed from home.

Essential Experience
Previous experience as a Buyer within a procurement function (essential)
CIPS Level 4 qualified or desire to work towards (highly desirable)
A recognised degree level qualification and/or relevant engineering/supply chain/lean culture experience (highly desirable)
Experience with ERP systems - SAP, Ariba, Jaeger, IFS, etc (highly desirable)
GCSE Maths and English Language - grade C / 5
Holds or ability to obtain Security Clearance - SC (essential)
