The duties of Buyer will include:
Determining material requirements from Engineering and the production schedule, and coordinating/monitoring the efficient movement of materials through the production cycle.
Working with supply/demand output to ensure that vendor orders are in line with MRP demand.
Achieving the lowest possible cost for material, balanced against optimum quality and schedule needs.
Ensuring that materials/parts are ordered and received by the required dates, notifying Planning & Goods-Inwards of receipt of parts and assisting with expediting or delaying shipments to meet production schedules.
Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.
Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships.
Explore alternate sources for goods and materials. Assess tenders and quotations from potential suppliers.
Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers.
Supporting the Purchasing Manager with arranging visits to suppliers and co- ordinating regular supplier development meetings.
Monitor and review vendor related goods rejection notes/NCR's, focus on closing out GRRN's in allocated time frame.
The ideal candidate for Buyer will have the following skills:
Proven purchasing experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Ideally from a machine shop sub contracting background
A good working knowledge of sub-contract procurement sources of supply to make purchases at prices consistent with quality and quantity requirements.
Demonstrated experience of planning tools i.e ERP/MRP and vendor management, other related business management systems, Microsoft Office, Excel.
Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements. Contract management and supplier experience.
Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills. Analytical, numerically astute with strong proven problem solving abilities.
A proactive approach to changing workload demands in an operational environment whilst remaining calm and measured when sourcing suppliers/resources to tight time frames.
An engineering background is essential as is the ability to read engineering drawings.
Ideally will hold membership of Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS)
