You will be responsible for accurately and safely providing necessary care to patients engaging with the service in the Trust. You will maintain key relationships with co-workers and other health care professionals across the Trust to ensure an effective service.

Oxford University Hospitals is a world-renowned centre of clinical excellence and one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK. The role will be based at John Radcliffe Hospital which is Oxfordshire's main accident and emergency site. The JR provides acute medical and surgical services including trauma, intensive care, and cardiothoracic services. It is situated in Headington, about three miles east of Oxford city centre.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you work as part of the Pharmacy team to provide an effective pharmacy service in the Pharmacy Dispensary, at Ward Level and to support the dispensing of out-patient prescriptions.

Your main duties in this role are as follows:

1. To Participate in the following aspects of dispensary technician duties as designated by the senior dispensary technician:

• Counselling patients that attend Pharmacy on how to take their medicines in a safe manner and warning them of possible side effects that they may experience during treatment.

• To be aware of and be involved in good customer service. when dealing with all stakeholders, with the ability to deal with demanding, stressful or emotional situations as they arise

• Receive prescriptions from patients/ staff and receive payment for prescription charges.

• Participates in processes to ensure that drug stock levels are monitored and accurately maintained.

2. To use the Pharmacy computer system and other information technology in all areas of Pharmacy. If based at the JR or CH site to be fully competent in the use of the Robotic Dispensing system, with the ability to diagnose and resolve robot issues or escalate as required.

3. To be an Accredited Technician Checker having undertaken the relevant training package according to departmental guidelines and spend time in the Dispensary providing the final check of dispensed items. To act within the limitations of the role and refer where necessary.

4. To assist in ensuring dispensary work is processed accurately, safely and efficiently. and according to procedures to support turnaround key performance indicators.

5. To provide practical support and advice to the allocated team members in relation to managing monthly Dispensary Controlled Drug stock checks, auditing and correction of levels, ensuring the correct process is followed, and a clear audit trail is maintained.

6. To undertake in house training to be able to process or destroy returned controlled drugs in line with local procedure

7. To supervise and be involved in the training of dispensary staff members including Pharmacy Technicians, Assistants and Apprentices and acting as a role model.

8. If a pharmacist – to complete in house accreditation to complete dispensary-based screening as appropriate.
