The role

The difference our new Aviation Safety & Risk Manager will make

As an Aviation Safety & Risk Manager you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Working across our diverse contract areas you will be responsible for:

Overviewing and analysing air safety events and risk management

Day to day, you'll overview and analysis of air safety events and risk management with BowTie safety tool methodology, to identify weaknesses in UK MA's safety management systems and proactively drive improvements to address the weaknesses, provide SME support to the contracts' Safety Teams, leading and assisting with investigation of accidents, incidents and engineering issues, and the development and execution improvement action plans, manage and maintain the risk management and safety promotion pillars of the UK MA's Aviation Safety Management System. Including updates to the Air Safety Manual and Air Safety Management Plans, prepare appropriate action plan updates for the monthly Business Reviews by collecting, analysing, and summarising measurement data and trends and provide Air Safety and Risk support and advice to bid teams through writing of plans and interpretation of Regulatory Articles, JSP's, DEFCON's & DEFSTAN's etc.

This role provides Flexible working and there are significant 'Hubs' in Bristol, Rosyth, Plymouth and London but this role can work from anywhere (including remotely/from home). Face time is important though, so travel to our Air sites around the UK is important.

Essential experience
Engineering background with line management experience. (IEng or demonstration to hold IEng minimum)
Experience of working in risk management within an aviation environment.
Experience working within the Defence Aviation Environment.
Experience of and / or understanding of Military Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations.
Experience of developing and maintaining safety management systems.
Solid understanding of MAA Regulatory Articles and their applicability.
Understanding and application of DEFSTAN' and DEFCON Policy to a Military Aviation contracting organisation.
Experience in leading and supporting investigations, specifically aircraft maintenance error.
Experience in aviation event management.
Obtain or have the ability to obtain SC Clearance

DESIRABLE:
Experience of working on new business opportunities.
Knowledge of BowTie methodology.
Understanding of quality assurance and understanding of quality management systems.

Ability to analyse data, identify issues and assess the effectiveness of controls, track mitigation, set warnings and alerts.
Successful planning and leadership of change.
Able to turn strategies into coherent, performance led programmes and projects.
