Job Type(s): Graduate, Summer & Year in Industry students Location(s): England Boscombe Down, Farnborough, Fort Halstead, Haslar, Malvern Salary: Competitive + benefits + bonus incentives* *Summer placements are not entitled to bonus incentives Start date: June 2021* or September 2021 *Summer placements only Job description: You will be working as part of the Applied Science Discipline which encompasses materials & chemistry, electromagnetics & acoustics, weapons science and human performance activities. You be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on a range of critical Customer projects and our work encompasses world-leading research (exploring the art of the possible') to comprehensive evaluation and testing of systems and components - as well as supporting the training of Service personnel. Our work can involve the modelling of scenarios, but, a key part of your work is likely to involve working in laboratories and facilities which are often unique in the work undertaken and safe-working in these areas is paramount. Sites & roles: EM & Acoustics Our Electromagnetics & Acoustics teams are involved in projects that stretch from using these technologies for sensing applications and the delivery of effects. It also links to the design of materials and structures that effect the electromagnetic and acoustic properties in order to support our Customers operations and activities. They are based at our Farnborough & Malvern Sites, but, with links to wider sites and groups. Human Performance *No summer placements Our Human Performance teams are involved in all things that are critical to customers from a human capability perspective. This includes ensuring that service personnel can survive wide-ranging and hostile environments on land, sea and air. They also lead on new ways of delivering training, selection and assessment which will tap into psychology and behaviour. In addition, ensuring that human-machine interaction in the most complex of systems is understood and as safe as possible is another key part of our activities. They are based at our Boscombe Down, Farnborough, Haslar & Malvern Sites Materials & Chemistry Our Materials & Chemistry teams are involved in delivery world-leading research into novel materials and in the analysis of materials and atmospheres for critical applications - from submarine environments to forensic evaluations. We also have a strong and growing Power Sources capability that covers research, test, evaluation and customer advice. They are based at our Farnborough & Haslar Sites Weapons Science *No summer placements Our Weapons Science teams are involved in a range of projects aimed at the defence and security of sovereign interests. These include research into weapons and explosives materials, protection systems for various platforms as well as land vehicle assessments. The common thread is ensuring both high performance and demonstrable safe operations for our Customers in very testing environments They are based at our Farnborough & Fort Halstead Sites and likely to involve trials activities on a range of sites in the UK. A demonstrable interest in science and/or engineering and a willingness to learn new skills and work on a potentially diverse range of tasks. Required: Achieved or on track to achieve a bachelor's degree or higher degree in a related discipline. We would be interested in hearing about any projects undertaken as part of your studies that relate to our areas above.
