Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Fully Qualified Accountant on behalf of our public sector client based in the Greater Belfast Area.
Job Summary:
The Accountant will have responsibility for a number of key functions within the Finance Office, including the supervision of a small team of book-keeping staff. The post-holder will also be responsible for the administration of the monthly internal budgetary control and reporting process, including partnering with the business effectively, to support local decision-making. Supervising the delivery of a range of finance services to the Secretariat, ensuring adherence to agreed policies. Performing as administrator for key financial systems, such as AP and the financial reporting system. The post holder will assist the Senior Accountant with the preparation of the Interim and Annual Report and Resource Accounts and undertake the administration and maintenance of the computerised accounting systems.
The team are currently operating a hybrid working practice due to the on-going COVID-19 working restrictions some duties are being carried out under an agreed homeworking arrangement. Homeworking arrangements require candidates to have personal access to a Windows 10 laptop or desktop computer.
Duration: 6 months
Hourly Rate: £19.32
Operational Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon-Fri)
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have:
1. Successfully completed the professional examinations and be a full current member of one of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies listed below:
1. The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants;
2. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland;
3. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland;
4. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales;
5. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants; or
6. The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.
1. At least one years’ post* qualification experience of preparing financial or management accounts for a public, commercial or voluntary sector organisation on an IFRS basis,
1. At least one years’ experience of maintaining and developing core IT financial and/or management accounting systems;
1. Experience using Microsoft Office packages, to include MS Work, Excel and Outlook.
* “Post-qualification” experience will be deemed to have commenced from the date on which applicants are admitted to full membership of one of the professional bodies referred to at 1 above, having fully satisfied all the criteria for membership.
While preference will be given to candidates who are fully qualified and can demonstrate one years’ post qualification experience, consideration may be given to candidates who are part qualified, but can demonstrate at least five years’ experience in preparing accounts.
Desirable Criteria
1. Experience of delivering services to tight deadlines to meet statutory or organisational requirements;
1. Line management experience.
