Rewards for Forces is pleased to announce that at the half year mark they have raised £10,890 for Combat Stress- their Charity of the Year!
Back in May, Combat Stress beat 4 other charities for the title that entitled them to receive a £5.00 donation from every card sale for the next 12 months. The Rewards for Forces website (www.rewardsforforces.co.uk) is a free to join site offering discounts and benefits to members of the Armed Forces, Veterans and Partners of those Serving or who have Served. The discount card is a one off payment of £24.00 and entitles members to access discounts on the high street with companies such as Frankie and Bennys, Burtons Menswear, Road Chef and many more. These companies have offered these discounts to give back and reward those who have served our country.
The competition started back in January 2014 were 15 charities in total were considered with the 5 charities with the most votes making it through to the next stage. Voting was opened via Facebook and received over 3000 votes in total across the charities taken via an online poll, telephone and email.
For the next 6 month, Combat Stress will continue to receive donations as well as promotion from Rewards for Forces in order to give its 250,000+ members information on the support services provided by the charity.
Founded in 1919, Combat Stress is the leading UK charity specialising in the care of Veterans’ mental health attributed to their time spent in conflict for our country. Over the years they have supported more than 100,000 ex-Service men and women from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Forces and Merchant Navy- as well as the Reserve Forces.
Combat Stress treats conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression and anxiety. To help Veterans rebuild their lives, they provide specialist trauma-focused treatment at three treatment centre’s, practical and clinical support in the community and a 24-hour Helpline (0800 138 1619).
Their work saves lives and is as vital today as it has ever been. Combat Stress is currently supporting over 5,400 Veterans; our youngest is just 18 years old. Demand for their services is rising, in the last financial year they received a 12% increase than the previous year with 1,700 new referrals.
Managing Director Peter Raith says “Rewards for Forces is so proud of the amount our members have raised for our Charity of the Year, Combat Stress. As Combat Stress celebrates its 95th Anniversary this year, we are delighted to celebrate its successes as well as shine a light on the fantastic work they do and promote the services that are available to our members. Talking about mental health can be difficult and we feel that our work with the charity will support those who may need help but are afraid to ask. We hope to continue raising funds for the next 6 months and double our current total by May 2015!”
